Greenwood Education Foundation
The Greenwood Education Foundation is always keeping a pulse on our community's needs and how to best serve our student population. In recent years, we have heard of the amazing talents and skills our students possess after receiving hands-on training and experience with tools from our Construction & Trades teacher, Mr. Figy. We are also hearing from our community business partners the challenges they face with a veteran workforce retiring at rates faster than can be replaced.
As a result, the GEF is turning its attention to the skilled trades industry and helping students interested in this field of work better understand the opportunities that are available to them, and connect them to quality employers right here in our very own community.
The GEF is proud to unveil our brand new “Transition to Trades” scholarship. This scholarship will provide financial assistance to those graduating seniors with intentions of entering a skilled trade profession. Basic tooling, adequate apparel, and books for an apprenticeship program are immediate out of pocket expenses these students face, with no resources to help them; the GEF is going to change that!
However, we need your help in making this scholarship a reality! Any donation received through on this page will go directly to the Transition to Trades scholarship fund. $20 can buy a hammer, $60 can buy a cordless drill, and $150 can buy a pair of steel toed boots. If the pandemic taught us anything, it is the importance of the skilled trades profession and how valuable they are in times of need. The pathways to a successful career are diverse, and the scholarships we offer to students should reflect that.
So let’s celebrate the future builders, creators, and innovators of our community by funding the Transition to Trades scholarship and help strengthen the workforce in our very own community!
